A securities fraud class action lawsuit has been filed against The Ensign Group, Inc. (“Ensign” or the “Company”) (NASDAQ: ENSG) on behalf of shareholders who purchased or otherwise acquired the Company’s common stock between February 10, 2022 and June 18, 2026, inclusive (the “Class Period”). Ensign is a holding company that owns and operates skilled nursing, assisted living, and other post-acute care facilities across the United States.
The complaint alleges that, throughout the Class Period, defendants made materially false and misleading statements and/or failed to disclose that Ensign’s facilities were systematically understaffed and failed to provide residents with adequate food, medical attention, and basic care; that the Company relied on self-reporting practices that obscured the extent of this neglect; that Ensign improperly billed Medicare and Medicaid for high-acuity residents who were not receiving the corresponding level of care; that the Company misstated the hours certified nursing assistants spent with residents; that Ensign used an improper arrangement under which licensed facility administrators were not actually present at or managing the facilities they were licensed to run; and that, as a result, the Company materially understated the reputational and legal exposure arising from these practices.
The alleged truth emerged through a series of investigative reports. On June 8, 2026, Hunterbrook Media published a report alleging that Ensign’s business model depended on systemic neglect of residents, and Ensign shares fell $13.88 per share, or 8.15%, to close at $156.42. On June 11, 2026, Muddy Waters Research published a report alleging that Ensign had misrepresented government billing and staffing data at an estimated 20% of its facilities, and shares fell a further 2.98% to close at $147.13. On June 18, 2026, Hunterbrook published a follow-up report alleging that residents at Ensign facilities were not being provided with enough food, and shares fell to close at $153.65.
